Does this sound reasonable? They have been friendly in their communication - sought another quote from another company, which wasn't so easy. Sounds pretty good to me, We only hired our vehicle through raro rentals for a few days and it was good. But maybe it was time of the year or we got a good deal. It was so convenient to walk out of airport and car was waiting, and then return it at Go cook island rentals. It was especially convenient when a rain cloud dumped down one evening and the poor people on scooters arrived at restaurant totally sodden.
But it only went skin deep. I suggest you obtain quotes from several other hirers if possible, to make a comparison. Rarotonga Rentals located opposite airport is associated with Island Car.
It would to see what type of deal they can offer for both scooter and car hire. Same with Polynesian Rentals which has several locations around the island.
Hopefully you have heard from the other company by now, to help with decision-making. I agree with Frangipani. Your best bet is to contact several, I know that a couple of them advertise they beat all offers on price?!? Lots of people on this forum including me have used Island Cars and recommend them.
I've also used several others but most recently have hired a car privately. Yes, it does pay to shop around. One of the newer ones, not mentioned above is Go Cook Islands. I haven't used them but I know Fernsie, a DE on this forum, mentioned fairly recently that she has negotiated a good deal with them for this year.
When comparing prices, it's important to look at things like airport pick-up and drop-off charges if any and definitely check the excess on insurance. But also check your insurance policy, because if you're covered for any excess Go cook island rentals that then you won't need to pay for extra insurance. So far we have another quote from Polynesian Rentals, which was more expensive.
Will try the others. There are one of the more competitively priced scooter hirers. Perhaps get back to them to negotiate for your dates. Avis also hire scooters. I emailed Go Cook and they referred me to Polynesian rentals - whose response was "we have already quoted you" They were the ones who weren't overly friendly when I initially enquired via email.
I advised Island Rentals was significantly cheaper and was told "you get what you pay for". They haven't quoted any discount off their standard rate, despite over a weeks rental.
The problem with waiting until you get there is that you have a car waiting at the airport for you. It's really good to go straight from the arrivals hall into the carpark and into the car that is waiting for you. Let's put it this way.
Lots of us have used Island Cars multiple times and have always found them absolutely fine. Some of the cars may not be the prettiest but that's not important as long as it goes!
I guess it's a bit like shopping around for the best exchange rate. You can spend hours and hours looking at alternatives, but in the end you don't really save very much, if anything.
